LEARNING TARGET: - I can ask good questions during my interview.
Planning & Asking Questions
Interviewers need to get there interviewees talking. Short answers are boring and don't provide enough content to create an exciting news package. This lesson will introduce you to asking the right questions.
Watch & Discuss
While watching the video below, focus on the questions they are asking as well as the info in the interview.
Let's discuss what you noticed.

Now watch the second video from last week focusing on the questions and information.

What was different? Which video had better questions and why? Which video had better information and why?
Pre-Production & Planning
LEARNING TARGET: I can use the pre-production process. I can research on my topic. I can create good questions
Every video needs a plan to start with. For the news story, it starts with the topic and research. Having the topic and basic info will help guide your beginning questions to ask in the interview.
Learn more by viewing the presentation below.

Step 1 - Choose a topic and gather info: From the list of topics provided, find a topic the interests you and your audience. Once you choose a topic that is interesting to you and relates to our school population, students need to research and plan out the project. Using the proposal for the assignment, start gathering your information
Activity 1: Complete the first part of the handout - Describe your topic and video idea. Then answer what information do you know already and what do you need to find out ahead of time? Do you need to do more research online or by asking certain people?.

Step 2 - Create Good Questions: Now that you have your topic and some information, you need to ask good questions that get your interviewee talking. Open questions are questions that allow the person to answer in more than a few words. Most questions can become good questions by adding Why or Explain.
Activity 3: Complete the second part of the handout - Create 5 good/open ended questions to ask people.

Step 3 - Film your interviews and ask your questions. Make sure to continue to use good microphone skills throughout the interview. The interviews will be edited and turned in to air on announcements.
