Looking for the Alphabet

LT: I can observe my world to find shapes and letters
I can work cooperatively with a partner to create a poster.  I can use lightroom to take photos and edit my images.

Photos will be imported into the computer. Then we will place them into a Photoshop file in order to turn them all in at once. I will have a tutorial on how to do this later.

The final jpeg will be turned in and placed on your website under the title Alphabet.
When you are completed re-share your website in Google Classroom.

Grow Your Vision

 A New Perspective

This project will challenge you and a partner to look at the world around you to see things in a different way.  You will take photos during class here at school in order to find all 26 letters of the alphabet. Once you have the letters, you will create a poster to show case your alphabet.

Thinking Outside the Box

Now that you are ready to take pictures, start to think about each letter and its shape.  When you are looking at your surroundings you are really looking for shapes that make up the letter.  What letter do you see in the image above?  If you see the letter C, you would be correct.  How about the image below?

What Letter is this?

Some letters will be very easy to find and others will be more challenging.  Just remember that no actual letters may be used in this project.  All photos will be taken during one class period, so use your time wisely.

Cropping images

After finding all 26 letters we need to make sure we crop out parts that do not add to the image.  Look at the photos below to see how I cropped each image.

Each image was edited using my phone.  I rotated and cropped to delete different parts to make the image look how I wanted it to look.  If you are using a camera, you can edit images in the camera.  Or you can edit your images once you have them imported into the computer.  Editing will depend on what you use and what apps you have available at the time.

Importing to the Computer

Everyone will be a little different in this step, so make sure you follow the correct steps for your device.

IPHONE: Select all images on your phone and airdrop them to the computer.  You will need to make sure airdrop is turned on for the computer, that you select the correct computer and that you are on the same wifi.  Once your images have been transferred, you will find them in downloads. Create a folder and label it Alphabet.  Select your images and drag them into the folder.

ANDROID #1: You can upload it to Google Drive and then download it to the computer.  Create a folder in your Drive and call it Alphabet.  Upload all images to this folder.  Then on the computer, you can download the folder.

ANDROID #2: Using Android File Transfer App. Click the link to open up the webpage for the file to download. Download this app to the computer and follow the directions.  You will need a cord to connect your phone to the computer.

CLASSROOM CAMERA/PERSONAL CAMERA:  Take out the SD card in the camera and insert it into the back of the computer.  Open up the Finder and go to the correct SD card.

Create a folder labeled Alphabet and drag all images into the folder.  Once the images are in the folder, you can drag the whole folder to the desktop or documents.
