Basic Shots in Film
On this page, you will learn about the basic shots. Students will use the basic shots to create a short video and edit in Premiere
Every movie, TV show or cartoon are made of 4 basic shots that every camera operator, director and editor know. The shots are as basic to them as 2+2=4 is to a mathematician. In the beginning, of film that is, people would set the camera up and just capture whatever they saw through the lens. Later on, when they could zoom in and out to capture objects in different sizes, they found they could use this to make their film more interesting. These later were called shots or shot sizes depending on how much of the subject could be seen.
Notes
Assignment
Students will create a video that tells a story. The story should be a very basic one and not very elaborate. The more basic the story the easier it is going to be to film. Students will use the 4 main shots in a specific order when they are filming. Students will then edit their video using Adobe Premiere. Students are still learning to edit, so don't expect any fancy effects to be added to help tell your story.
Shots will be filmed in the order listed in the document below. Click on the document to fill out your shot list for the assignment. This must be turned in to have the final video receive a grade.

Follow this shot list as you film and edit your project. Each shot should be in the order given on the list. Please complete the Shot List before filming, projects will be marked down or given a 0 if the shot list is not turned in or incomplete. The list is what you are filming so there are no surprises when I watch your video.
