Cut On Action
Watch the video below to see an example of a quick cut video.
This technique is used in almost every movie, tv show or documentary. Because of how the cut is placed, between action, the viewer doesn't even notice the shot changes. Your assignment is to edit a video and match the action.
Here is another way to look at the Match or Cut on Action for a more creative editing technique.
Cutting on action requires multiple clips of the same action as well as other actions to pick up where one action leaves off. In the video below, the tutorial shows how to use to camera shots to show a person kicking a ball. Watch how the action continues to flow even though the shot changes. Did you notice the cut?
In this project, you will create your own cut-on-action video. You will create a shot list of different actions and tell where the cuts will be before filming. Then you will film the action and edit it based on the shot list. You will be filming actions twice. Once will be with one shot and angle and another will be from a different shot and angle.
For example, a person sitting will be filmed twice. Once, as long shot, walking into the room and sitting down. Then a second time of the sitting down and turning the chair.
Shot List

The first step in any video is the pre-production or planning. For this project, you will start by selecting your task and creating your shot list. Click on the button below to complete your shot list. See the example below for help.

Filming Assignment

Go film your shot list. Make sure to use the following:
-
All 4 shots
-
5 angles

3 camera movements
-
You can use more as needed or desired in your video.
-
Make sure the camera is steady. Use a tripod or dolly. Shakey shots will be marked down.
-
