Modeling Skills

Image as Texture

Project Overview:

In this project, students will expand their Blender skills by learning how to apply 2D images as textures onto 3D objects. After mastering the core technique, you will put your knowledge to the test by creating a complete custom scene. You will use a 3D plane to build a wooden tabletop, and then add a second plane to set up a detailed background—such as a living room, a kitchen, or an outdoor environment—to bring your digital scene to life.

What You Will Learn:

  • The Core Skill: Importing and applying an external image file as a realistic surface texture on a 3D object.

  • Environment Building: Constructing a tabletop scene using basic planes.

  • Scene Composition: Integrating a background image (like a kitchen or outdoor view) to give your 3D model a sense of place and depth.

Start the process by choosing a wood texture using the link to Pexels.com. Then use the video to learn how to apply an image as a texture material to a plane. In the final step of this video, learn how to render the scene by adding in lights and manipulating the camera.
